John did not write the scriptures.
John is referring to a specific scripture.
Therefore, contained within this scripture is going to be all the essence of theological truth released! Released & not contained.
When Pilot crucified Jesus, he was insistent despite the protestations that what he had written he had written: King of the Jews.
The religious Jews had demanded that it was changed to a statement that ‘he said he was the King of the Jews’. They requested this so that his death was underscored by bearing false witness to who he was! This statement is a two edged sword, as it applied to their actions in bearing false witness against him & in their intention to deceive others concerning the truth of his identity.
The religious Jews wanted it to be declared that Jesus was not the promised Messiah in the scriptures & as he was not the Messiah he was therefore crucified. That he said he was the Messiah and yet that he was crucified was meant to be a theological self incriminating statement.
But they did not understand the scriptures nor the scripture that he must rise from the dead.
They were crafting their own image of God in which the promises of God unto King David would materialize with a Messiah who would break the pagan empire of Rome and restore the kingdom of Israel to all and beyond its former glory.
This Messiah would have their full support and backing as he would enforce their religious way of life.

Religious drive is theologically flawed from the very moment motion starts as it is riddled with the spiritual truth and reality of the fall. Man can not rise when their is a law of sin and death at work within his adamic nature. As with the law of gravity, man cannot rise up to be as god when the truth of his very life is pulling him to the dust of the ground, from whence first God formed him and breathed into him the breath of life.
– the soul that sins must die – from dust you came from dust you shall return.
